From the Residents and Their Families
Chan Lai Ying
Daughter of resident, North Point
My mother has been on the Full Comfort arrangement for seven months. She was reluctant at first — she had lived in the same flat in Causeway Bay for forty years. What changed her mind, she says, is the afternoon tea. She told me the kitchen staff remembered on the second day that she prefers her tea without milk. That kind of attention is not something you can write in a policy document.

Leung Ka Wai
Resident, Garden Mornings plan
I chose the Garden Mornings plan because I enjoy being outdoors but I am not ready to change my living arrangement permanently. The courtyard is pleasant and well kept — there is always a shaded bench, which matters in summer. The morning walk is gentle and not compulsory, which I appreciate. The food is better than I expected, and the lotus root soup on Thursdays is something I look forward to.

Wong Bik Kwan
Son of resident, Wan Chai
My father moved here after a period of living alone that was becoming difficult for the whole family to manage. What Ho Cheung gave him was structure without feeling like a hospital. He tells me the team treat him like a person, not a patient. The welcome host arrangement means someone knows his preferences and can help with small things — collecting a prescription, finding a specific book. For us as a family, it has brought genuine peace of mind.

Ng Siu Han
Resident, Dining & Tea House plan
I come for the meals and the company. My own flat is only ten minutes away, which suits me — I keep my independence but I am not eating alone every evening. The dining room has a good atmosphere and the other residents are interesting people. One thing I would mention: the waiting time for a seat at afternoon tea has occasionally been longer than I prefer. It is a popular sitting and the team are aware of it.

Ho Ming Fong
Daughter of resident, Aberdeen
We visited four residences before settling on Ho Cheung. The difference was noticeable within five minutes of arriving. The corridors were quiet, not echoing. The staff spoke to my mother directly rather than to us on her behalf. She decided for herself after that first visit. She has been on the Full Comfort plan for four months and calls me most evenings — not because she is unhappy, but because she has things to tell me about her day.

Tang Yiu Fai
Resident, Full Comfort plan
I retired here from a long career and I was not sure what the next chapter would look like. Ho Cheung has given me a pleasant surprise. The garden in the morning is the best part of my day — it is the first time in many years that I have had outdoor space of my own. The room is well kept and the monthly arrangement is clear. There have been no unpleasant surprises on the invoice.

Three Journeys to Ho Cheung
Each resident arrives with a different set of circumstances. Here are three paths that brought people here.
From Solo Meals to a Dining Community
The Situation
A retired schoolteacher in her late seventies was eating alone most evenings after her husband passed away. Her daughter noticed she had lost weight and was not cooking regularly. She was otherwise healthy and independent but had become withdrawn.
What Changed
She joined the Dining & Tea House plan on a trial basis — still living in her own flat nearby. Within three weeks she was coming every day, including the afternoon sitting. She had started introducing herself to other regulars and was telling her daughter about their conversations.
Six Months On
She has since moved to the Garden Mornings plan and participates in the morning walks three times a week. Her daughter says she is eating well and has a noticeably lighter manner on the phone. "It did not take a dramatic change. It took a table to come back to."
From Family Home to a Room of His Own
The Situation
An 82-year-old man had been living with his son's family in a three-bedroom flat. The arrangement worked practically but he felt he was in the way. He did not want to be a burden and the lack of his own space was wearing on him quietly over time.
What Changed
His son read about Ho Cheung and they visited together. He was drawn to the private room arrangement and the idea of having his own host. He moved in on the Full Comfort plan the following month. His son's family visit him regularly — but the visits are now genuinely looked forward to by everyone.
One Year On
He tends a small section of the courtyard garden and has become a familiar presence at the morning walks. The welcome host has helped him with several administrative tasks that had been accumulating. He told his son: "I have more space here than I have had in years — but I am less lonely."
